LAMOURE, N.D. (NewsDakota.com)- The first day of the Class B Southeast Region American Legion baseball tournament saw three close games, and one lopsided affair.
In the first of the quartet Wednesday, LaMoure’s Alex Klever threw a one-hitter and struck out 10 as Post 19 took down Hankinson-Fairmount-Lidgerwood 4-0. The lone hit came from Bradon Prochnow, the second batter in the game.
Game two saw Oakes rally with two runs in the bottom of the seventh to defeat Ellendale 4-3. Izaiah Hoelscher drove in the game winning double, with a blown save and loss credited to Cole Goehring, who came on to close things out in the final inning with a one-run lead.
Post 19 LaMoure then held off Enderlin 7-6, as the Railcats ended up stranding the bases loaded to end the game. MacClaine Biermann struck out nine, but also walked nine in four and two-thirds innings of work to give Post 221 a fighting chance towards the end.
The final contest saw Kidder County dismantle Oakes 19-4 in four and a half innings. Post 231 put up three runs in the first, and another eight in the second, chasing Tyler Voightman out of the game. Kamen Schmidt earned the win with nine strikeouts in four innings of work.
Loser-out play commences at noon Thursday with Ellendale meeting Enderlin, followed by Oakes and H-F-L at 2:30. At 5, a ticket to the State B in Langdon is on the line as LaMoure meets Kidder County, with the 7:30 game pitting the winners of the first two games.
