JAMESTOWN, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – After charges were levied against Justice Lange in the death of her baby, some were disappointed that they weren’t as severe as they thought they should be.
Lange has been charged in the death of her 4 month-old baby earlier this month near Woodworth, ND. She was charged with manslaughter, a class B felony, and child neglect, a class C felony. If convicted, Lange could face up to a total of 15 years in prison and $30,000 in fines.
Some members of the public believe the charges should be more severe. Foster County State’s Attorney Paul Murphy says when it comes to charging a crime, a state’s attorney has a lot of different factors they need to look at.
Murphy says the attorney also needs to take into consideration their evidence and how the jury will receive all the information given to them. He says residents who are disappointed in the charges against Lange should keep all of this in mind when they see charges not only in this case, but other cases as well.
Murphy says while the charges don’t justify what allegedly happened in the situation, he says people should let the courts take care of as much as they can for everyone involved.
Lange’s case is being handled in Stutsman County by Stutsman County State’s Attorney Fritz Fremgen.
