BISMARCK, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – Nick Hinsz facedjust three batters over the minimum and held Jamestown to three hits leading the Bismarck Reps to a 2-1 win over Post 14 in Southwest DIvision American Legion Baseball Thursday night in the Capital City.
Hinsz walked one and struck out five over seven innings. The one run was unearned.
Bismarck did all its damage in the first inning. After Hinsz popped out, Connor Weikum reached on a bunt single then went to second when Aaron Kleven’s throw went down the right field line. Skyler Reidinger walked and Luke Domres singled to load the bases. With Cole Richey batting, Aaron Kleven uncorked a wild pitch which allowed Weikum to score. After Richey popped out and Alex Klug was at the plate, Kleven threw his second wild pitch bringing in Reidinger.
Jamestown would cut the lead in half in the fifth. Max Anderson singled to center field to lead off the inning. With one and Drew Murray batting Hinsz threw a wild pitch. Anderson went all the way around to third. Reps catcher Skyler Strand tried to throw Anderson out at third and threw the ball into right field scoring Anderson. Drew Murray would triple but Hinsz got Isaac Mimong to ground out and Jeremy Williams to pop out to end the inning.
Jamestown would not get another base runner. Hinsz retired the last eight batters he faced.
Kleven pitched well in the loss. He went six innings allowed five with hits three walks and four strikeouts. Both runs were unearned.
In the second game, which did not count towards the Division standings, Jamestown scored three runs in the top of the eight inning to pull out a 9-6 win. Dawson Douty’s rbi single was the game winner for Post 14.
Jamestown scored fivew runs in the first but saw Bismarck come back to score four in the bottom half. Both teams scored in the second and Bismarck tied the game at 6 with a run in the seventh.
Chris Erickson and Ryder Lunzman had three hits each. Dawson Douty and Tommy Falk had two hits each. Erickson drove in three runs and Lunzman scored three times.
Jamestown improves to 11-8 overall and 6-1 in the Southwest Division. Bismarck falls to 11-9 overall and 3-3 in the division.
The two teams will play again Friday night at Jack Brown Stadium. The doubleheader starts at 5:30. Only the first game will count in the division standings. Jamestown has already locked up the top seed in the Southwest Division for the Regional tournament at the end of the month.
