OAKES, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) The Oakes Post 36 and Kidder County Post 231 American Legion baseball teams split their doubleheader at Cummings Field Wednesday.
In game one, Post 36 rallied after trailing 2-0 with four straight runs en route to a 4-2 victory. The eventual winning run was driven in as part of a bases clearing double by Adam Neustal.
Mike McKenna made his first start of the summer and earned the win, lasting all seven innings while striking out two. Both Post 231 runs were unearned.
Game two saw Post 231 take an early 7-0 lead, and they managed to hold it in the end to win 7-5. Taylor Schall took the loss for Oakes, lasting just two innings, but allowing a single earned run. Post 36 had seven errors in the loss, which saw Coy Awender net a triple in the fifth as Oakes attempted to come back.
Post 36 now stands at 5-3 in the region, and heads to Ellendale Friday to meet Post 137. Oakes defeated Ellendale 16-3 in four and a half innings on June 14. Coverage on The Tornado KDDR-AM 1220/95.9 FM and NewsDakota.com starts at 4:50 p.m., with first pitch at 5.
