JAMESTOWN, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – According to the USDA, the farmer’s share is 14.8 cents of every dollar spent on food.

Individuals are being encouraged to hear about this and experience a steak dinner for only $1.25. The North Dakota Farmers Union and Jamestown Area Chamber of Commerce are hosting the dinner to demonstrate in a public way how little the farmer receives for their efforts.

Chamber Executive Director Becky Thatcher-Keller:

“The Farmer’s Share meal is a great educational tool because it illustrates the income farmers actually receive for the food they grow,” NDFU President Mark Watne stated. “Unfortunately, it also reflects our depressed farm economy. Farmers receive less than 15 cents of every dollar spent on food. That’s the lowest it’s been since USDA began tracking the Farmer’s Share in 1993.”

The event will allow participants to learn about the number one industry in North Dakota and how the prices are affecting farmers within the state. The meal will be held at the NDFU Offices in Jamestown on Thursday, July 12th at Noon.

To reserve a ticket, contact the North Dakota Farmers Union at 701-252-2341 or the chamber at 701-252-4830 or stop by either place to pick up your tickets. Hope to see you there!
