VALLEY CITY, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – A sponsoring committee made up of Valley City residents Brian Mindt, Lloyd Nelson, Gary Schlagel and Robert Drake submitted a referendum petition request to the city of Valley City that if approved would have allowed citizens to vote up or down on the 3rd Avenue S.E. improvement project approved by the city commission last month.
After a 10 day review, the city denied the request saying the committee did not properly identify the ordinance that they wish to refer, the city said it was not appropriate to refer the Resolution because it deals with an administrative act and that the protest period for special assessments has passed and none of the committee members listed above are affected by the special assessments with the 3rd Avenue S.E. improvement project in Valley City.
The same group submitted referendum petition requests to bring the proposed Central Avenue improvement project known as Streetscape to a public vote, all of those requests were denied by the city.
