NEW ROCKFORD, N.D. (AP) — The superintendent of a North Dakota school district who is among the finalists for a position on the state Board of Higher Education has survived an effort to oust her from her job.

New Rockford-Sheyenne School Board president John McKnight had recommended that Jill Louters be fired for staying in the same hotel room with her son and elementary school boys during an archery tournament in March.

McKnight says Louters did not get permission from all the families to chaperone the boys, and some parents called her conduct unprofessional and unethical.

The vote to dismiss Louters failed by a 4-2 vote, after which McKnight resigned from the board.

Louters says the vote reflects that she did not violate any policies and no sanctions were warranted.
