JAMESTOWN, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – The Jamestown Bus Depot will officially close today after almost two years of volunteer service.

Jamestown Bus Stop Inc. Board Member Alden Kollman reports the closure happened due to early morning hours of Jefferson Bus Lines and anticipated revenue being lower than expected.

When the bus depot opened originally, the schedule had the eastbound bus arriving at 10:10 AM and westbound bus at 2 PM. A change in schedule had the westbound bus arriving at 12:20 AM followed by the eastbound bus at 3:40 AM.

Revenue was expected at $80,000 annually with enough generated to pay for overhead and volunteers. Actual ticket sales came in at around $40,000 to $50,000 and was not enough to sustain operations.

The depot was opened in 2016 following concerns by the late Charlie Kourajian with riders needing to wait for the bus in the outside elements.

Riders will now need to wait for the bus at the three-sided structure on First Avenue North and First Street West near the railroad tracks. There will be no on-site sale of tickets.

Kollman says he hopes somewhere open 24/7 will take over being the new pickup location for individuals, especially with winters in Jamestown providing terrible conditions.
