JAMESTOWN, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – The City of Jamestown Public Works Committee had numerous items come before them Thursday evening.

One of the items was brought forth by Jamestown Police Chief Scott Edinger and concerns changing 6th Street SE from 2nd Avenue SE to 3rd Avenue SE to diagonal parking. Chief Edinger says parking around the Law Enforcement Center has become more of an issue recently.

Chief Edinger says once more review is done, a full proposal will be brought to the council. Chief Edinger says the proposal would create a one way street on 6th Street from 2nd Avenue to 3rd Avenue SE. Traffic would flow from West to East on the concept that was being discussed. He says the cost to the city would be minimal if the concept was accepted.

It’s estimated the design would potentially create up to 15 more parking spaces around the Law Enforcement Center. Because the item was just discussion, there was no decision made.

Later discussion was held on the former city garbage carts. City Administrator Sarah Hellekson informed the committee that a vector problem with the carts in their current location. Councilman Steve Brubakken asked about the possibility of residents purchasing the former carts for personal use. Mayor Katie Andersen said they had different carts and some that the city might want to hang on to.

Hellekson said that some of the carts needed cleaning, so the wording of the motion was to offer the carts rather then sell them.

Councilman Ramone Gumke made a motion to sell the non-compatible carts as is. The council unanimously approved.

Discussion of a decrepit trailer home in Sunnyside Trailer Park was held. City Inspector Tom Blackmore informed the committee that there have been multiple notices provided to the property.

The recommendation was to remove the damaged property and assess it to the lot owner. Sunnyside owner Patty Stephan stated that the owner of the damaged mobile home should be required to pay for the removal of the property.

City Assessor Jamison Veil informed the committee that a trailer court is considered one lot, meaning Stephan may still be required to pay to have the mobile home removed. The committee moved to have their legal council see if they could assess the cost to the owner of the property and special assess the cost to Stefan as the backup. The motion was approved.
