WEST FARGO, N.D. (NewsDakota.com)- Valley City was firing on all cylinders Thursday in their EDC Tournament opener. They scored 18 runs over the first 2 innings en route to a 23-0  5 inning win against Grand Fork Central.

The Hi-Liners collected 15 hits and chased out starter Taiylor Ellingson after just an inning. Becca Thompson led the offensive charge going 3 for 4 with 2 home runs and 5 RBI. Erin Anderson, Mackenzie Pederson and Kacee White drove in 3 each with Grace Scherr and Hailey Schaefer plating 2.

Last time out against Central, Valley City struggled against their pitching, Thompson said this week they worked on making key adjustments

 

In the circle Schaefer rolled through The Knights line up, she struck out 6 straight batters from the 1st through 3rd innings. She ended the game with 12 strike outs. Schaefer felt the run support helped her focus on getting outs

 

Valley City now finds themselves in The EDC semifinals and a win away from returning to state. Friday they will play Fargo Davies. The Eagles upset 3rd seeded Red River 8-5 in 8 innings.
