JAMESTOWN, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – The city of Jamestown was approached with several needed items by different departments during their committee meetings Tuesday afternoon.
The first of several items discussed during a special meeting before the committee meeting was the consideration of declaring an emergency and authorizing the immediate replacement by Sanitation Products of the irreparable roll off truck at a cost of $157,000. Sanitation Foreman Roger Mayhew reported that the truck’s engine experienced failure, damaging the injectors and igniters inside.
Mayhew recommended purchasing a new truck to replace the damaged one. The council discussed selling the damaged truck as is to recover some of the costs. Mayor Katie Andersen stated that the equipment replacement fund would more than likely have plenty to cover the cost.
A motion was approved to purchase a new sanitation truck. Mayhew reports it could be ready in the next week for the city.
Later discussion was held on the Arts Center requesting 2nd Street SW from 1st Ave to the alley each Thursday in June, July and August for the Downtown Art Mark this summer.
Concerns were raised by Corner Bar owner Sheldon Oviatt on the issues of parking on those nights and it affecting business. Jamestown Downtown Association President Lynn Lambrecht says they have discussed this.
Oviatt stated that he would maybe like to close off the sidewalk next to the Corner Bar to allow his patrons on those days to be outside as well.
The Council approved the request to close the street and to add a temporary liquor permit for outdoor consumption at the Corner Bar on those same days.
