Coach’s Comments
Sheyenne is the number 1 team in the East for the regular season and they showed it with an 8-1 victory over us. Reagan and Cali closed off the net and were looking to attack the ball earning VC our only win on the day.
Angela and Hannah Dockter found their stride and had a lot of fun facing a former singles state champion in Monte. They won the first set 6-4 and put up a great fight for the rest of the match. Both are gamers and they came to play today. Bring that all this coming week!
Hope and Haley got some good experience while playing one of the best players in the state in Preeti. They moved well at the net and learned a bunch playing this match. Hope and Haley may be playing a little bit of doubles this coming week so it was good getting them this match.
Hannah Aberle, Maisie, and Rose have all turned a corner recently with their topspin. They are all more consistent and confident on the tennis court with their ground strokes. They are constructing points and looking to finish by coming to the net. Great work.
The biggest result of the weekend is that Shanley beat Fargo North. This avoids the 5-way tie for third which would have put us as the #7 seed going into the regional tournament. Instead, we are part of a 3-way tie for fourth in which we lose the tiebreakers dropping us to the #6 seed. There is a huge difference between the #6 and the #7 seed. The #7 must play in a play-in match on Monday and then must play the #2 in the opening round. By moving to #6, we avoid the play-in match and play the #3 in the opening round. We will take it!
