JAMESTOWN, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – On Saturday, May 12th, the “Stamp Out Hunger” food drive came to Jamestown.
City residents were asked to place a bag of non-perishable food items next to their mailbox on that day, which were then picked up by local mail carriers. JoAnn Ray is the Jamestown Mail Carrier and Food Drive Coordinator.
Ray says on that day, they were able to collected 2,240 pounds of food. She says all of this was donated to the Jamestown Salvation Army.
Nationwide in 2017, the NALC collected more than 75 million pounds of food, which was then donated to local food banks and organizations. Final numbers haven’t been tallied for 2018 yet.
