JAMESTOWN, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – School Resource Officer Andrew Staska informed the Jamestown School Board of the DARE Program Monday evening.
Officer Staska gave a break down of the 2017-18 school year calls for service, pointing out that his main goal is to build those relationships with students in the school district.
Officer Staska says a big issue he had to address in the high school was vaping.
Staska says over the year, he had 353 different calls for service including disorderly conduct, unruly juvenile, welfare checks, tobacco violations, information reports, accidents, and drug possession calls.
The Drug Abuse Resistance Education (DARE) program is based on good decision making and how to help students make the right decision in different situations.
Staska had some students stop by to share some of their experiences from the DARE program. Aiden Fosse is from Roosevelt School.
Landon Lech participated in the DARE program at Gussner School.
Officer Staska says he taught 8 different DARE programs in the school district for the past 10 weeks. He stated he was very proud of all the kids and believes it was positive for them to go through the program.
