TOLNA, N.D.  (NewsDakota.com)  The Mustangs of Midkota/Lakota/Dakota Prairie/Griggs County Central scored two runs in the fourth inning and two runs in the fifth inning as they beat the Carrington Cardinals in Class B Region 3 High School Baseball Monday afternoon, 4-2.  With the win, the Mustangs improve to 5-1 in the region and 8-6 overall, Carrington suffers their first loss in the region and falls to 7-1 and 9-4 overall.  Even though the Cardinals lost, they will still be the number one seed heading into the Region 3 Tourney in New Rockford starting Monday, May 21st.

Senior Cole Varnson pitched a complete game for the Mustangs, allowing just one run on seven hits, just two walks and four strikeouts.  Taking the loss for Carrington was starting pitcher Kyle Leapaldt, working six innings allowing four runs on seven hits, six strikeouts and no walks. At the plate for M/L/DP/GCC, both Johah Ringstad and Hunter Gibson had two hits each.  Gibson had an RBI triple in the fifth inning while Ringstad hit an RBI single in the fourth inning.  The Cardinals scored the first run of the game in the fourth inning when Leapaldt knocked in Lucas Geiszler on a single.  Carrington would score again in the top of the seventh with two outs, but couldn’t get anymore.
