JAMESTOWN, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – The Stamp Out Hunger Food Drive is coming to the Buffalo City on Saturday, May 12th.

City residents are asked to place a bag of non-perishable food items next to their mailbox on that day, which will then be picked up by local mail carriers. City Carrier JoAnne Ray says the cause will help support the local community.

Last year was the 25th anniversary of “Stamp Out Hunger”, which resulted in 2,600 pounds of food collected from the region. All food collected was donated to the Jamestown Salvation Army.

According to the National Association of Letter Carriers, more than 75 million pounds of food were collected in 2017. This food was then brought to local food banks and organizations.

“It’s an honor to be able to help people in need by leading an effort that brings out the best in so many Americans,” NALC President Fredric Rolando said.

The Stamp Out Hunger® Food Drive is the country’s largest single-day food drive. It is held annually on the second Saturday in May in 10,000 cities and towns in all 50 states, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, the Virgin Islands and Guam.
