CARRINGTON, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) Junior pitcher Kyle Leapaldt struck out 12 Blacksox batters on a showery Monday afternoon and the Cardinals go on to win 4-3 at Carrington City Park. Carrington improves to 6-0 in Region 3 and 7-2 overall. Sheyenne/New Rockford drops to 2-4 in Region 3 and 2-6 overall.
The game was bumped up an hour in a half earlier because of rain in the forecast later in the evening. The Blacksox scored first in the top of third inning when Johnny Grann hit a double and later scored. The Cardinals would take the lead for the first time in the bottom of the third inning scoring two runs, Leapaldt knocked in Jayden Shipman and Payton Smith with a single, he ended the game 1-for-2 with a two RBI’s and a walk. The Blacksox would score two more runs in the fifth inning, but the Cardinals would also score two runs in the bottom of the fifth to take the lead for good. Teddy Allmaras and Grann had the only two hits for SNR, both doubles. Shipman ended the game 1-for-3 with an RBI double and he also scored two runs, one after he reached on a error. Leapaldt was the winning pitcher, working all seven innings, just two walks, two hits and 12 strikeouts. Allmaras took the loss, four runs, five hits, three strikeouts and two walks.
