JAMESTOWN, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – The Jamestown City Council has amended the originally proposed changes to the city’s forestry ordinance.

The council first approved numerous consent agenda items including funding for the Jamestown Small Business Development Center, approved to replace in-car computers for the Jamestown Police Department, and re-advertising for two new motor graders.

City Councilman Dan Buchanan brought forth the proposed amendments to the city code pertaining to the Forestry Department.

Buchanan says the concern with the proposed amendments is the elimination of requiring a member of NDSU Extension Service serve on the committee. The City Attorney’s office made the recommendation to give the committee more discretion when it came to filling the committee.

Lynn Hill with the committee stated that they believed even if the reference was eliminated, it would more than likely be an NDSU Extension Service agent.

Mayor Katie Andersen gave part of the reason for making the decision recommended to them by the City Attorney’s Office.

Assistant City Attorney Abbagail Geroux expanded at that.

Councilman Ramone Gumke stated in this case, he thought it would be fine to leave the NDSU Extension Agent verbiage in the code. He said in other circumstances, the city would try it’s best to keep the wording of the city code more open.

The NDSU Extension wording was amended back into the code and approved unanimously.
