VALLEY CITY, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – Barnes County Commission candidates and two candidates for Sheriff gave their point of view during a forum held May 3rd in Valley City.
The future of the Barnes County jail was a big topic of discussion during the forum. The state has given the county until the end of the year to decide whether to close, renovate or build a new jail.
Sheriff candidate Sue Maresh Lloyd serves on the jail committee said we have to find out what the cost of building a new jail will be and the cost of remodeling the current facility.
Incumbent Sheriff candidate Randy McClaflin echoed those comments.
District #4 Barnes County Candidates Terence Brock, Vicky Lovell and Marcy Svenningsen spoke at the forum about the jail and the importance of having a Veterans Service Officer.

Erick Sand was unable to attend the forum. The top two candidates following the June 12th primary will face each other in the November 6th general election as well as incumbent Bill Carlblom and candidate Eldred Knutson in District 3. Shawn Olauson is running unopposed in District 2, he was unable to attend the forum.
