MADISON, S.D. (PlayNorthStar.com)- Valley City State University track and field athletes Mackenzie Huber and Lenzel Koskela have been selected as North Star Athletic Association Athletes of the Week, the conference office announced Tuesday.
Huber, a sophomore from Clark, S.D., was named the Women’s Field Athlete of the Week after setting a new school record and qualifying for nationals in the discus. Koskela was named Men’s Track Athlete of the Week for the third time this year after running a season-best time in the 400-meter dash.
North Star Athletic Association Men’s Outdoor Track Athlete of the Week
Lenzel Koskela – Valley City State (N.D.) – Senior – Plymouth, Minn. – Koskela was the top NAIA finisher in the 400-meter dash as he ran a season-best time of 49.91 seconds at Ron Masanz Classic meet for Valley City State (N.D.). That ties him for the top time in the NSAA this season. He finished third in the race. Koskela also anchored the 4 x 100-meter relay team with a time of 43.18 seconds and 4 x 400-meter relay with a time of 3:28.58, both with third-place finishes.
North Star Athletic Association Women’s Outdoor Field Athlete of the Week
Mackenzie Huber – Valley City State (N.D.) – Sophomore – Clark, S.D. – Huber set a new school record in the discus throw with her national qualifying throw of 42.73 meters (140 feet, 2 inches) at the Cobber Twilight meet for Valley City State (N.D.). It is also the top throw in the North Star conference by more than a meter. She doubled up with a victory in the shot put at the same meet, tossing a measurement of 12.61 meters (41 feet, 4.5 inches). Huber also placed fourth in both discus throw and shot put at the Ron Masanz Classic meet.
