JAMESTOWN, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – Emergency sirens could be heard for around 3 minutes Wednesday afternoon in Stutsman County as personnel tested for severe summer weather.

Stutsman County Emergency Manager Jerry Bergquist reports that the county-wide exercise began at around 11:15 AM and simulated what occurs locally when a tornado warning is issued by the National Weather Service.

“The goal of the exercise was to test the Communications Center’s internal notification procedures county-wide including the testing of area community siren systems,” Bergquist reports. “The siren systems for Jamestown, Buchanan, Cleveland, Medina and Streeter were tested, all of which proved to be operational and ready for the summer weather season.”

Bergquist reminds residents of Stutsman County that the CodeRED Weather Warning system allows individuals to sign up for immediate notification of tornado, thunderstorm, and/or flash flood warnings for a specific warn area. The free service can be accessed and signed up for by visiting co.stutsman.nd.us and clicking the CodeRED icon on the bottom of the page.
