VALLEY CITY, N.D. (VCSUVikings.com)- The Viking baseball team on Tuesday dropped a non-conference game to the University of the Mary Marauders 17-5. Unable to fight back from a nine-run deficit in the first inning, Valley City State University drops to 14-28 (NSAA 7-15) overall on the season going into the conference tournament.
The Vikings tallied 10 hits on the day, ultimately being led by Brennen Neva, Brady Smith, and Grant Wehseler recording two hits each in the game. Alejandro Guiterrez drove in two runs on one hit as well. Tyler Ukestad, Aiden Brook, and Nate Soulis all recorded one hit.
Senior Bryce Karl had a decent outing on the mound for VCSU going 3 and 1/3’s innings in relief and allowed no earned runs. Tyler Kliniske tossed two innings as well allowing one run and struck out two Marauder batters.
Next action for the Vikings is in the first round of the North Star Conference Tournament against Bellevue University in Jamestown, ND Friday at 1 p.m. (CT).
