Coach’s Comments

What a difference a week makes!  Last week we were the only team in the region to be practicing outside and this week every team is playing matches outside.  Thank you to Erik Kringlie, Don Schaack, and Jordan Heck for getting all of the courts ready for our first home tennis match of year.

Reagan and Cali had some good competition in the Bell sisters in doubles.  They had some great points and the Bells have improved quite a bit from last season.  Those two will make some noise in the regional and state tournament.  In singles, Reagan had a lot of fun hitting with Madi and playing high level tennis.  Cali wasn’t the happiest with her own level of play, but still managed to win with only dropping two games.  Great job Reagan and Cali.

We switched up the doubles so that Hannah Dockter and Angela played together for the first time this year.  They played well together.  We might have a doubles team that works at #2.  In singles, Hannah plays such a cerebral game.  She figures out what works and just continues to do that until she wins the match.  She proves that you don’t need to have absolute perfect tennis game to win, you just need to figure out what works each match and execute.  Angela is figuring out her game.  She plays up and down.  When she lets the game come to her and she doesn’t overthink it, she plays amazing points.  When she lets her head into the game, then some unforced errors are made.  Angela is working through this and will figure it out soon.  Great job you both on a great day.

Kayla and Hannah Aberle played together at #3 doubles today.  They had a very tight match and pulled it out.  Kayla’s mentality has improved on the court dramatically.  She was smiling more and was able to put the bad points behind her to continue to play at a high level.  Hannah stepped into her volleys and moved into the net well today.  Also, she improved her topspin which helped her consistency.  Great job ladies.

Hannah, on her birthday, got to play by far the most tennis today.  She had a long doubles match and then followed it with a three-setter singles match.  As this was the only match remaining and it was getting late, we switched her third set to a super tiebreaker.  Hannah fought hard throughout the entire match and fell down 9-5 in the tiebreaker before fighting back to 9-8 by just playing her game and believing.  She ended up losing 10-8, but she played those last points with confidence and going for it. Great job Hannah.

Maisie stepped in today and played #6 for us.  After dropping the first set 6-1, she fought back in the second set and forced a tiebreaker.  She is a little under the weather but still racquet prepped and moved the feet very well.  She is improving and will be a major player in girls tennis for the years to come.  Great job Maisie.
