CLEVELAND, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – A father and son escaped with their lives after a home explosion in Cleveland Saturday morning.

The Stutsman County Sheriff’s Office reports that the call came in just after 10 AM saying a home had exploded. Medina Ambulance and the Cleveland Fire Department responded to 605 3rd Avenue North.

The father and son were taken to the Jamestown Regional Medical Center with unspecified injuries. Firefighters stayed on scene for about 3 hours as Montana Dakota Utilities and Otter Tail Power disconnected utilities.

All that’s left of the home was a chimney and roof gutter. Several pets were in the house at the time of the explosion. They were taken to Steele for veterinary care. It’s unknown if any of the animals were killed.

The cause of the fire is unknown, but Stutsman County Emergency Manager Jerry Bergquist says the likely cause could have been a natural gas build up.

The incident remains under investigation.
