JAMESTOWN, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – A committee comprised of area parents, teachers, and individuals has been working to address items they see as issues within the Jamestown School District.

A task force focused on the furniture in classrooms came before the school board Monday night to give an update on their work. Sally Ost is a member of that task force.

Ost says they’ve also worked with other vendors to see what would work best in elementary and middle school’s. She says the district has a pilot classroom in the middle school and two elementary school classrooms that they are using at no cost to the district. Ost says after the assessment, they’ll try to determine what works best and an action plan to make it happen.

Middle School teacher Justin Connell, Lincoln Elementary teacher Rachel Kastet and Gussner Elementary teacher Kelly Bauer have been using the pilot rooms for their classes. They have used different stools, desks, tables and other furniture items to see what students liked to use most and the difference they made in the classroom.

Connell said feedback was similar between the 1st grade, 4th grade and 8th grade rooms.

Superintendent Robert Lech says space has been a very important piece to more uniform classrooms in the school district.

The task force also looked at other classrooms in other schools across the state to see what they were using as far as furniture was concerned. The school board then toured one of the pilot classrooms.
