VALLEY CITY, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – A Medicine Hat, Alberta family was injured after striking an icy stretch of roadway near Hobbart Lake Friday morning.

Richard Smith was traveling at a reduced speed on I-94 roughly five miles west of Valley City when his vehicle slid sideways into the median and rolled.

Serena Smith and three children ages 10, 8, and 4 were also in the vehicle at the time of the rollover. The 10 year-old was unbuckled and asleep at the time of the crash. He was ejected and came to rest on the left shoulder of the westbound lane. The vehicle came to rest on its wheels.

Richard, Serena and the 10 year-old all suffered minor injuries. All occupants were transferred to Mercy Hospital. The 10 year-old was later transferred to Sanford Hospital in Fargo.

The NOrth Dakota Highway Patrol is continuing to investigate.
