JAMESTOWN, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – The City of Jamestown has entered an agreement with Jamestown Community Corrections (JCC) that will pay individuals serving community service issued by the court system.
Executive Director Dell Horn approached the city council with some items he would like amended to the agreement, which has been compiled after months of work.
Some of the items included increasing the amount paid per hour to $4, the city pays out within 45 days, and allowing community service buyout money to go back to JCC.
Councilwoman Pam Phillips stated that she was definitely in favor of the buyout funds going back to the JCC.
While buyouts seldom happen and are not recommended by JCC staff and the courts, it was agreed that when they do occur that the funding go back to Jamestown Community Corrections.
Another item addressed was filling out non-compliance reports. Horn says filling them out is the same amount of work as filling out a completion form for individuals serving community service.
It was recommended that a fee of $10 be applied for a non-compliance form. The city approved to meet all the changes suggested by the JCC. People who are convicted or plead guilty to a crime might be sentenced to work for nonprofit groups as part of their punishment for the crime. They complete this by going through Jamestown Community Corrections.
