MOORHEAD. MN (NewsDakota.com)- The spring sports season commenced for Oakes High school over the weekend, competing at the Cobber Indoor Meet, and both teams finished in the top ten.

The Tornado girls placed seventh with a team score of 27 points. Freshman Lanie Awender placed third in both the 55 meter and 200 meter runs. The 4 x 800 team finished sixth, the 4 x400 was seventh, and the 4 x 200 team placed ninth.

In field events, Claire Wagner was fourth in the pole vault and Sadie Hansen was seventh in the shot put.

The Oakes boys finished 10th with nine points. Brackin Awender was eighth in the 400 meter, and the 4 x 800 team finished sixth and the 4 x400 team was seventh.

Matt Grove was eighth in the triple jump, and Ashton Biesterfeld was eighth in the shot put.

Oakes heads to North Dakota State University in Fargo Saturday, March 24 for their next meet.
