Devils Lake, N.D. (NewsDakota.com)——Top seeded Four Winds-Minnewaukan (FWM) out scored New Rockford-Sheyenne (NRS) 39-22 in the second and third quarters and defeated the Rockets 58-49 to claim the District 7 boys basketball title. The Rockets jumped out to a 13-8 lead after the first quarter but struggled to score consistently in the final 3 quarters. Tucker Longnecker scored a game high 20 points for the Rockets and Bo Belquist added 16 points. The Indians were paced by Jon Redfox with a team high 16 points and Jaden Yankton added 9 points. Frank Gourd, Bronson Walter, and Jay Garcia all added 7 points for the Indians. FWM improved to 14-7 overall and NRS dropped to 13-9.
Region 4 qualifier:
Benson County defeated Lakota 68-51 and advanced to the Region 4 tournament as the number 4 seed from District 7. Lakota finished the year 2-20 overall and Benson County improved to 13-9 with the victory.
Region 4 qualifier:
Dakota Prairie (DP) Knights 86 Harvey-Wells County (HWC) Hornets 51
Tyler Loe scored a game high 25 points, included 7 three pointers. Hunter Sand added 18 points and Bryce Trenda added 14 points for the victorious Knights. The Hornets were paced by Parker Grangers 12 points and 10 points each for Jarett Anderson and Walker Koropatnicki. The Hornets finished the season with a 8-13 overall record and DP improved to 11-10 and will advance to the Region 4 tourney as the three seed from District 7.
