JAMESTOWN, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – The man who led Stutsman County deputies and Jamestown Police officers on a high speed chase that ended in a shootout north of Medina Wednesday has been identified.
Stutsman County Sheriff Chad Kaiser reports that 27 year-old Michael Andrew Schieffer died after firing a gun at officers. Kaiser reports that Schieffer did not have a last known address and had a warrant out for his arrest in Bismarck for driving under suspension. That was the reason Jamestown Police attempted to pull him over, leading to a pursuit from Jamestown into northwest Stutsman County.
During the pursuit, Schieffer shot at Stutsman County Sheriff’s deputies while they continued the chase after Jamestown Police called off their pursuit. After Schieffer became stuck north of Medina, he exited his vehicle holding a cellphone and handgun and walked towards the Sheriff’s deputies and Jamestown police.
Kaiser says that’s when Schieffer began firing.
Kaiser says Schieffer was killed in the exchange. Deputies began providing CPR until ambulance crews arrived. The incident remains under investigation by the Bureau of Criminal Investigation and the Stutsman County Sheriff’s Department.
