JAMESTOWN, N.D. (NewsDakota.com)- The higher seeds in this year’s Class B District 5 Boys Basketball Tournament all earned wins in the opening round Friday.
LaMoure-Litchville/Marion 69 Oakes 56
In spite of only having a three point lead at half, LLM (14-6) outscored the Tornadoes 14-8 in the third quarter, and shot 50 to 25 percent from the floor in the second half to pull away for the win.
The Loboes had a game high 24 points from Jamison Kramer, with Shay Ness contributing another 22. Tyler Voightman lead the way for Oakes (9-11).
Edgeley-Kulm-Montpleir 69 Midkota 39
Points off of turnovers were the main key in the victory for EEK. The Rebels (16-4) put down 23 points off of 17 Midkota turnovers, to eight points for the Mustangs (3-16) from nine total Rebel turnovers.
Lane Hanson registered a double-double in the victory with 24 points and 17 rebounds; 10 on the offensive glass. Mason Smith lead his club with 11 points in the defeat.
Ellendale 54 Barnes County North 49
The third game of the day was certainly the most competitive of the three; with six different lead changes. BCN (8-12) actually had a better field goal percentage, but the game was won at the free throw line as Ellendale (15-5) made eight of 10, with the majority of the attempts occurring in the last quarter.
Austin Molan had a game high 20 points for the victorious Cardinals. Allen Contreas put in 11 points to lead the Bison.
Saturday starts with a loser-out contest at 4:30 as Midkota meets Barnes County North. At 6, the first semifinal features Carrington (17-2) going against LLM. The second semifinal will have EKM meet Ellendale.
