VALLEY CITY, N.D. (NewsDakota.com)- The State Water Commission will replace Valley City water treatment plant equipment damaged by Devils Lake water.

City Administrator David Schelkoph told the city commission the State Water Commission approved of nearly $600,000 in funding to replacing equipment damaged by higher sulfate levels.

Schelkoph said the total cost of this repair will be $588,000 with the city’s cost share at $58,000. He told the commission that the funding will come out of the City Public Works budget or capital improvement fund.

The State Water Commission said it would provide mitigation funding to municipalities who provide evidence of damage to their water treatment systems due to Devils Lake water. Valley City officials say the cost of treating water with higher sulfates is expense and takes a toll on their filters.
