JAMESTOWN, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – Both Mandan High basketball teams figure to be in the mix to win a state championship in two weeks and they got all they could handle from the Blue Jays on the final night of the regular season. Jamestown fell just short in the two games. The girls lost 67-62 and the boys fell 80-76.
GBB: Mandan 67, Blue Jays 62.
For a while it appeared senior Megan Gaffaney was going to will the Jays to victory in her final game at Jerry Meyer Arena, but her 21 points weren’t quite enough. Katherine Horgan hit a three with about two minutes to go to pull Jamestown within one at 60-59. But Mandan’s Megan Zander scored two of her 21 on the next possession to push the lead back to three.
Jamestown will play Legacy in the opening round of the West Region Tournament on March 1st at the Bismarck Events Center. Tip-off is scheduled for 3:45pm.
BBB: Mandan 80, Blue Jays 76.
Dawson Douty scored a career-high 20 and hit a three to tie the game with 1:21 left, but the Braves scored the final four points to escape with a victory. Jays senior John Horgan had a big first half and finished with 17.
Jamestown and Mandan will meet again in the 3/6 match-up of the West Region Tournament on March 1st. Tip-off is scheduled for 8:15pm.
