JAMESTOWN, N.D. (NewsDakota.com)- As anticipated, the final four teams in Class B Region III girls basketball this season are those ranked in the top ten in the state, after each winning their quarterfinal games Monday.

#4 Carrington 64 Napoleon/Gackle-Streeter 41

Two key factors aided the District 5 champs in advancing to the next round. Carrington shot 47 percent from the field, as opposed to NGS’ 29 percent, and the Cardinals capitalized on 26 points off the Imperials 15 turnovers.

McKenzie Johnson lead Carrington (19-4) with 20 points, and was nine of 18 from the floor. Mackenzie Hefflin registered a double-double for the Imperials (10-13).

#7 Edgeley-Kulm-Montpelier 49 Kidder County 38

The Wolves made the Rebels work for the victory in the second game of the evening, thanks to an 18-12 run in the second quarter to be up by one at intermission.

EKM (20-3) stepped it up though in the third quarter, outscoring Kidder County (15-7) 12 to three in the third quarter, and never looked back.

Katie Entzi registered 13 points and 10 rebounds in the victory, while Madelyn Schmidt put in a game high 16 points for the Wolves.

#2 Medina/Pingree-Buchanan 56 Oakes 38

The result when these two teams met in the regular season was decisively one sided, but this time around the Tornadoes hung around to within nine points with under six minutes left in the contest.

However, it was points off of turnovers that sunk Oakes’ chance of an upset. The Thunder had 17 points off of turnovers to just two for the Tornadoes.

MPB (20-2) saw Megan Moser and Taylor Sabinash each score 13 points. Oakes (12-11) was lead by Nicole Schmitz with a game high 19 points.

#6 LaMoure-Litchville/Marion 62 Linton-HMB 30

The Loboes propelled themselves to the semifinals with a 24-6 second quarter surge, leaving the Lions far behind at the half, and never able to catch up.

LLM (20-2) had four players in double figures. Anna Holen (14), Ellie Holen (12), Olivia Bliss and Jackie Meiklejohn (10).

McKayla Ptacek was the top scorer for Linton (10-13) with seven points.

Tuesday promises to be one of the most highly contested and entertaining Region III semifinals in quite some time. Carrington meets EKM at 6, followed by MPB and LLM around 7:30. Both games can be heard on 103.1 FM The Raven and NewsDakota.com, with coverage starting around 5:45 p.m.
