MADISON, S.D. (PlayNorthStar.com)- Jamestown will be the top seed when the 2018 North Star Athletic Association Women’s Postseason Tournament begins on Wednesday, Feb. 21. The Jimmies finished the 2017-18 regular-season schedule with an overall record of 27-3 and won the NSAA conference title outright with an undefeated 16-0 record.
Number two seed goes to Valley City State with an overall record of 22-4 and 13-3 NSAA conference record. Bellevue is the No. 3 seed (18-12 overall record, 11-5 NSAA record). The number four seed belongs to Mayville State with an overall record of 19-8 and 10-6 record in league play.
The top four seeds all host the first round games.
Dakota State (12-18 overall record) and Presentation(12-14 overall record) finished in a two-way tie for fifth place in the North Star conference standings with an 8-8 record. Both DaSU and PC split their meeting, as well as a win over Bellevue. A coin toss was conducted to break the tie and was won by Dakota State, securing the No. 5 seed. Presentation is the No. 6 seed.
Viterbo (6-22 overall record) and Waldorf (6-20 overall record) were also tied for seventh-place in the North Star standings with a 3-13 record. Both V-Hawks and Warriors split their meetings and earned a pair of victories over Dickinson State , therefore another coin toss was conducted to break the tie. VU won the coin toss to earn the No. 7 seed, while WU will be the No. 8 seed.
The Blue Hawks are eliminated from the postseason conference play. Dickinson State concluded their 2017-18 season with an overall record of 4-22 and 0-16 record in NSAA.
The quarterfinals round begin on Wednesday – Waldorf at Jamestown; Dakota State at Mayville State; Presentation at Bellevue and Viterbo at Valley City State.
The first round winners will advance to the ‘Final Four’ round at the top remaining seed on Feb. 24-25. The semifinals are scheduled for Saturday, Feb. 24, with the winners advancing to the championship game on Sunday, Feb. 25.
The NSAA Postseason Tournament Champion earns an automatic bid to the NAIA Division II National Tournament on March 7-13 at the Tyson Events Center in Sioux City, Iowa.
