FOREST CITY, IOWA (VCSUVikings.com) – Kennedy Henningsgard and Lexi Lennon combined for 45 points Friday night as the Valley City State women’s basketball team ended the regular season with a 87-59 victory at Waldorf University.

Henningsgard poured in 23 points and Lennon posted 22, leading the Vikings to their 22nd win of the season. VCSU – ranked No. 18 in the NAIA Top 25 poll – ends the regular season with a 22-4 overall record and a 13-3 mark in conference play. With the NSAA Tournament starting next week, the Vikings are within striking distance of tying the school record of 24 wins.

Valley City State will be the No. 2 seed for the NSAA Tournament, and will host either Viterbo University or Waldorf on Wednesday night at 7 p.m.

On Friday night in Iowa, the Vikings started fast and opened up a 21-12 lead after the first quarter. VCSU held a 38-28 lead at the half, and then blew the game open with a 15-0 run to start the third quarter. The Vikings led by as many as 34 points in the fourth, coasting to the victory.

VCSU shot 53 percent from the field (33-62), 60 percent on 3’s (9-15), and went 12-for-12 on free throws. Waldorf shot 45 percent on the night (22-49), 53 percent on 3’s (8-15) and 70 percent at the line (7-10).

Henningsgard had four assists and went 9-for-13 shooting, including 3-for-4 on 3’s. Lennon went 3-for-3 on 3’s and was 7-for-8 from the field. Kate Williams also reached double figures with 11 points, and added four assists.

Up next: Valley City State (22-4, 13-3 NSAA) begins postseason play Wednesday night by hosting a first-round game in the NSAA Tournament.
