MINOT, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – Isaiah Thomas scored natural hat trick leading Bismarck Century to an 8-1 win over Jamestown in the semifinals of the West Region hockey tournament Friday night on Minot.
Thomas scored two goals in each of the first two periods as the Patriots led 6-0 after 34 minutes. Kirklan Irey, the leading scorer in the state, had a goal and three assists giving him 79 points on the season with 34 goals and 45 assists. Thomas is second in the state to his teammate. He has 24 goals and 41 assists for 65 points.
Jamestown avoided the shutout when Connor Fuchs scored his seventh on the season on the power play at the 4:01 mark of the third period.
Matthew Schneider had 29 saves in two periods. Sophomore Riley Gerhardt stopped 16 shots in the third period. Cooper Leininger made 14 saves for the Patriots who improve to 19-4 on the year.
Jamestown, who falls to 12-10 overall, will play Bottineau/Rugby Saturday morning in a state qualifying game. Jamestown beat the Braves twice during the regular season. Faceoff is at 11:00, pregame at 10:45 on 1400 ESPN Jamestown.
