JAMESTOWN, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – In 2016-2017, The University of Jamestown began playing hockey in the American Collegiate Hockey Association. After a 20-10-3 record and a rank of #7 in the nation, the season was over. They did not qualify for the national tournament because they were a first year program.
Fast forward to 2017-2018, the Jimmies are 18-12 and riding a nine game winning streak into this weekend’s home series with Midland University. A team that swept UJ in Jamestown in October.
First year head coach Cole Bell says this is a different team.
Coach Bell says a big reason for the success of the Jimmies has been the play of goaltender Tyson Brouwer. The Sophomore from Lethbridge, Ontario, Canada has a 14-6 record with a 2.45 goals against average and a .918 save percentage. At the beginning of the season, he split time in the nets with Tallon Kramer. When Kramer left the team after the first semester, Brouwer became the guy. And Coach Bell says Brouwer has taken off.
The Jimmies will host Midland at John L. Wilson Arena Saturday and Sunday at 7pm and 6pm respectively. With seven games left in the regular season, the Jimmies are ranked #11 in the nation and on the verge of reaching the national tournament in only their second year on the ice.
