EDGELEY, N.D.  (NewsDakota.com)  The Cardinals were down early on, but made some crucial free throws down the stretch to pull out a victory over the Rebels of Edgeley/Kulm/Montpelier on Thursday night 65-61. With the win, the Cardinals secured the number one spot in the upcoming District V tournament that starts on Friday, February  23rd at the Jamestown Civic Center, EKM will be the number two seed. The Cardinals improve to 6-0 in D5 play and 15-2 overall, the Rebels drop to 5-1 in D5 play and 13-4 overall.

The game featured seven ties, EKM led after the first quarter, 11-7, Carrington led by four points at halftime, 24-20.  EKM retook the lead at the end of three quarters of play, 39-37.  Leading all scores was Senior Lane Hanson with 29 points, including 8 of 10 at the free throw line, he was the only Rebel to shoot a free throw the entire game.  Carrington was led by Sophomore Seth Nelson with 18 points, he was also 8 of 10 at the charity stripe.  Seniors Garrett Bickett and Kolton Vetter each had 16. Both teams did not shoot a free throw the entire first half, in the second half, Carrington was 22 of 25, EKM eight of 10.

Next up for Carrington will be next Tuesday in Harvey for a non-region match-up with the Hornets of Harvey/Wells County, AM 1600 KDAK the Cardinal and newsdakota.com will provide coverage starting about 7pm pregame, 7:30pm tip off.  Next up EKM will be next week Thursday at home against Medina/Pingree/Buchanan.
