VALLEY CITY, N.D. (VCSUVikings.com) – The Valley City State women’s basketball team set a school record with 119 points Wednesday night as the Vikings defeated Trinity Bible College 119-43.
In the first quarter VCSU outscored Trinity 30-11 and ended the first half with a solid 62-22 lead. Every healthy player came off the bench for VCSU in the half, with all but one scoring as well.
VCSU – which dropped one spot to No. 18 in this week’s NAIA Top 25 Coaches’ Poll – is 21-3 on the season and 12-2 in the NSAA. Trinity Bible is now 13-8 on the season.
VCSU shot 61 percent overall (52-85), 46 percent on 3’s (10-22) and 63 percent from the line. Trinity Bible shot 37 percent from the field (19-52), 8 percent on 3’s (1-13) and 44 percent from the line.
The Vikings had five players score in double-digits, led by freshman forward Maddie Fenske who had a double-double with 22 points and 10 boards. Sophomore Annie Swenson also posted a double-double with 11 points and 10 assists. Also scoring in double figures for VCSU was Zoie Breckheimer with 16 points, Lexi Lennon with 14 and Gabby Martin with 12. Every player that got into the game for VCSU scored.
Trinity Bible was lead offensively by Emma Logan who scored 24 points, followed by Shaylyn Steinheuser who had 16 points.
The Lions next matchup is Friday, Feb. 9, against Sisseton-Wahpeton College.
VCSU plays their next game Saturday, Feb. 10, with a North Star matchup at No. 8 University of Jamestown. Jamestown is currently 24-3 on the season and 13-0 in the NSAA. In the last matchup between the two teams Jamestown bested Valley City 53-52 in Valley City.
