VALLEY CITY, N.D. (VCSUVikings.com) – On Senior Night the Valley City State University women’s basketball team showed up to play, extending their win streak to eight games. Starting the game off with a 7-0 lead, VCSU never looked back en route to a 75-48 victory.
VCSU never trailed in the game. After the first quarter VCSU held a 20-13 lead and followed with a solid 41-24 lead at half-time. The Vikings led by as many as 33 in the fourth quarter, coasting to the conference win.
Following this win No. 17 VCSU advances to 20-3 on the season and 12-2 in the NSAA. Dickinson state drops to 5-21 on the season and 0-13 in the NSAA.
The Vikings shot 44 percent from the field (29-66), 29 percent on 3’s (7-24) and 91 percent from the line. Dickinson State shot 28 percent from the field (16-58), 15 percent on 3’s (4-27) and 80 percent from the line.
For two consecutive nights three Vikings scored in double digits with senior Lexi Lennon and junior Mackenzie Huber leading the charge with 13 points each. Senior Kennedy Henningsgard had a double-double, leading the team with 10 rebounds and also scoring 12 points. Junior forward Kaitlin Connor had an impressive game defensively, leading the Viking defense with four blocks and adding four total rebounds. VCSU senior Paige Meyer knocked down a pair of three-point shots and had two steals.
Dickinson State was led offensively by Chelsey Borden who scored 17 points and also had six rebounds and two steals. Defensively, Isidora Tasovic led the team with 4 steals, helping the Blue Hawks record 11 steals to VCSU’s 5.
Dickinson’s next matchup is Feb. 9 at Waldorf University who is currently 5-17 on the season and 2-10 in the NSAA.
The next matchup for VCSU is Wednesday (2/7) against Trinity Bible College who is currently 12-7 on the season with and is currently 0-2 against North Star teams.
