JAMESTOWN, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – Amateur astronomer Dr. Timothy Bratton has been observing the stars and beyond for quite some time.

In his recent observations, he’s found that a total lunar eclipse will close out this month. The lunar eclipse is being referred to all over the world as a “blood moon.”

A blood moon occurs when a total eclipse appears reddish in color as it’s illuminated by sunlight filtered and refracted by the earth’s atmosphere. Dr. Bratton says all eclipses are more or less a different color.

Dr. Bratton says a lot of different occurrences recently will be what causes the moon to look dark red during the full eclipse on Wednesday morning.

In Jamestown, the full eclipse will begin at around 4:50 AM and enter the total eclipse stage by 6:51 AM, which will be fully viewable to the naked eye if conditions are clear.
