VALLEY CITY, N.D. (VCSUVikings.com) –Alex Quist made the game winning shot with six seconds left as the Viking men ended their two-game losing streak with a crucial 66-65 win over the Bellevue Bruins.
Three Vikings scored in double digits, being led by Rashad Satahoo with 21 points. Jayden Ferguson finished with 12 points, which now puts him in 2ndplace all-time in VCSU men’s basketball scoring history with 2015 career points. Justyn Galloway posted a double-double with 14 points and 10 rebounds.
Another Viking senior also had quite the game, Alex Quist finished the game with five points as well as four assists and the game winning basket. With the Vikings trailing 65-64, Quist picked up a loose ball in the lane and knocked down a 12-foot jumper with six seconds remaining to put VCSU ahead 66-65. He follows with a defensive strip on the other end, disrupting Bellevue’s attempt to win the game.
Following this win, the Vikings improve to 9-15 on the season (3-9 North Star). Bellevue is now 14-10 (6-5 North Star) on the season following the loss.
VCSU shot 47 percent from the field (23-49), 42 percent on 3’s (10-24) and 83 percent from the line. Bellevue shot 41 percent from the field (24-59), 40 percent on 3’s (8-20) and 64 percent from the line.
Bellevue ended the game with three double-digit scorers as well. Leading the Bruins was Austin Moore, with 15 points and four rebounds. BJ Shelton scored 12 points, followed by Richard Reed with 11 points. Jaffery Stillman led the Bruins on defense with five defensive rebounds (eight total).
The next action for the Vikings is next Friday and Saturday, with Viterbo University coming on Feb. 2 and Dickinson State coming Feb. 3.
