VALLEY CITY, N.D. (VCSUVikings.com)- Valley City State University track & field athletes Lenzel Koskela and Roy Allen both earned North Star Athletic Association Athlete of the Week awards, the conference office announced Tuesday.

Koskela was named the NSAA Track Athlete of the Week, while Allen was named the NSAA Field Athlete of the Week. The Viking duo was recognized after strong performances Saturday at the Cobber Open in Moorhead, Minn.

Star Athletic Association Men’s Indoor Field Athlete of the Week

Roy Allen – Valley City State (N.D.) – Junior – Taft, Calif. – Allen recorded a throw of 15.79 meters (51 feet, 9.75 inches) in the weight throw as he placed second out of 22 competitors at the Cobber Open for Valley City State (N.D.).  His mark is the top throw in the North Star conference this season by more than four feet.  Allen also added a fourth-place finish in the shot put with a measurement of 12.90 meters (42 feet, 4 inches).

North Star Athletic Association Men’s Indoor Track Athlete of the Week
Lenzel Koskela – Valley City State (N.D.) – Senior – Plymouth, Minn. – Koskela won two events and set a new school record at the Cobber Open for Valley City State (N.D.).  He bested a field of 28 runners to win the 60-meter dash in a time of 7.18 seconds.  Koskela also ran the first leg on VCSU’s 4 x 200-meter relay team that took first-place and set a school record.  The relay team’s time of 1 minute, 33.30 seconds broke a 27-year-old school record set back in 1991.
