N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – The Optimist Club of Jamestown is hoping to raise enough money to purchase helmets for area youth.

The club is a member of Optimist International, one of the world’s largest civic organizations. The organization has roughly 114,000 members and 3,500 clubs worldwide. Their goal is to “bring out the best in kids.”

The local club is hosting their annual Spaghetti Feed on Friday, February 3rd to help raise money to purchase bike helmets for kids.

“We will be purchasing 720 safety helmets. The cost is about $5 per helmet, so for $4,000 we can help hundreds of kids stay safe while sledding or riding bike,” said Joseph Kraehenbuehl, Club President.

The helmets are distributed to kids during safety day events by police officers giving daycare and school safety talks. Tickets are $8 per adult, $5 for students and free for kids five years and younger.
