BELLEVUE, Neb. (JimmieAthletics.com) – The first conference games of the 2018 half of the season for the University of Jamestown basketball teams took place at Bellevue University and the Jimmies won both games.

#6 Jimmies 70, Belleuve 39.

Bryn Woodside (SR/Albert Lea, MN) scored 18 points, passing the 1000 career-point plateau, and the 6th-ranked Jimmie women’s basketball team remained undefeated in the North Star Athletic Association, defeating Bellevue 70-39 Saturday afternoon.

Jamestown (17-2, 6-0 NSAA) led by just 7 at the half despite holding the Bruins (9-10, 3-3 NSAA) to 23.5 percent shooting (8 of 34) in the opening 20 minutes.

The second half belonged to the Jimmies, who outscored Bellevue 39-15 in the second half.

UJ opened the third quarter on an 8-0 run, capped off by a McKayla Orr (SR/Ypsilanti, ND) layup, and led 39-24. Allison Jablonsky(SO/Blaine, MN) drained a three-pointer with three seconds left in the period to give Jamestown a 50-30 lead.

Orr finished with 9 points and 5 steals. Jenna Doyle (JR/Princeton, MN) had 8 points, 6 rebounds, and 4 blocked shots, and Marina Nowak(JR/Rogers, MN) added 7 points and 5 rebounds off the bench.

Bellevue struggled to find much success offensively, shooting 24.1 percent. Morgan Cuffe led the Bruins with 10 points. Elexis Martinez and Caletria Curtis each finished with 8.

Woodside becomes the 20th Jimmie with 1000 career points. She is 15 points from tying Cindy Slusher (1984-88) for 19th on the all-time scoring list.

Kevin Oberweiser (JR/Drummond, Mont.) scored a career-high 29 points and the Jimmie men’s basketball team rallied from a 15-point first half deficit to defeat Bellevue University in North Star Athletic Association conference play Saturday evening.

A pair of Blake Wilder free throws with 3:41 in the first gave the Bruins their second 15-point lead of the half. However, the Jimmies scored nine of the half’s final 13 points and trailed by 10, 49-39, at the break.

Sam Johnson (SR/Mora, Minn.) was fouled on a three-point attempt and converted all three free throws to get Jamestown (13-5, 3-3 NSAA) within four points, 55-51, with 16:26 to play. After trailing between two and six points for the next 8 minutes, the Jimmies retook a 69-67 lead on a Johnson three-pointer with 8:22 remaining. The bucket proved to be the back-breaker for the Bruins, as they could not get any closer than two the rest of the way.

Oberweiser finished 11 of 17 shooting, including 7 of 10 from beyond the arc. His 7 three-pointers are tied for third-most in a game by a Jimmie. Johnson finished with 18 points and 5 rebounds, shooting 4 of 10 from three. He was also 6 for 7 from the foul line. Jon Purintun(JR/Linton, N.D.) had 16 points and 8 assists, and Christian Kvilvang(JR/Cando, N.D.), who made 4 treys, was also in double figures with 15.

Jalen Hall led Bellevue (10-8, 3-3 NSAA) with 24 points. Blake Wilder finished with 22 and Jaffrey Stillman recorded a double-double with 12 points and 10 rebounds.

Jamestown shot 51.8 percent from the field and connectedon 16 of its 34 three-point attempts. The Bruins shot 53.3 percent for the game and were 7 of 19 from distance. Rebounds were 35-27 in favor of Bellevue, as were turnovers (11-10).
