N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – During a recent Jamestown Public School Board Meeting, Jamestown High School Principal Adam Gehlhar gave an update on the newly implemented 7 Mindsets Educational Competency Program.

Principal Gehlhar says the district has an advisory program, which is more than what some other districts have at this point. He says many other schools are still trying to figure out how to establish an advisory program for the 7 Mindsets program.

According to their website, 7 Mindsets is a “social emotional learning (SEL) tool that provides lessons, training and content to schools and whole communities, coupled with the common language and framework leaders need to succeed long-term.”

Principal Gehlhar says their first step with the program was to improve student and faculty relationships.

The five competencies include Self Awareness, Self Managing, Social Awareness, Relationship Skills, and Responsible Decision Making. Principal Gehlhar says 7 Mindsets is just one of the programs like it in their schools.

School Board Member Diane Hanson states that she believes the program will continue to be positive for the district.

The program was started in the Jamestown Public School District in the 2017-18 school year.
