N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – The cold weather in North Dakota often leaves its residents to find indoor activities to pass the time. But for the ice anglers, it’s what they’ve been waiting for.
North Dakota Game & Fish Biologist Doug Leier says the freezing temps this past week have been the perfect recipe for anglers to enjoy prime ice fishing in the state.
Leier does warn residents to remember that just two weeks ago, conditions were less than ideal to head out on the ice in some parts of North Dakota.
Leier says it takes longer for two feet of ice to be created in one week, but the conditions should continue to improve. Leier says the conditions make it perfect for the free ice fishing weekend that kicks off Saturday, December 30th.
Free ice fishing will wrap up Sunday, December 31st. For more information on free ice fishing weekend, visit gf.nd.gov.
You can catch the Outdoors with Doug Leier on JD in the Morning every Thursday at 7:20 PM on Big Dog 95.5 FM.
