JAMESTOWN, N.D. (JimmieAthletics.com) – The University of Jamestown basketball teams swept Viterbo on Saturday afternoon at Newman Arena.

#8 Jimmies 84, Viterbo 37

The Jimmie women’s basketball team held Viterbo (Wis.) to 22.2 percent shooting, including a combined 2 of 26 in the second and fourth quarters, in an 84-35 North Star Athletic Association conference win Saturday afternoon at Harold Newman Arena.

The eighth-ranked Jimmies (13-2, 4-0 NSAA) got 17 points from McKayla Orr (SR/Ypsilanti, ND) and 14 from Bryn Woodside (SR/Albert Lea, MN), as both players shot 6-of-9 from the field. Jamestown’s bench contributed 36 points, as Allison Jablonsky (SO/Blaine, MN) finished with 9, Mackenzie Sparby (FR/Watford City) 8, and Mackensi Higlin (FR/Mandan, ND) 7.

UJ took a 25-13 lead after the first period and opened the second quarter on a 10-0 run, capped off by an Orr bucket. Jablonsky gave Jamestown its biggest lead of the half at the 2:23 mark with a basket to make it 42-17.

A 9-0 Jamestown run opened the third quarter and pushed the lead to 34, an advantage by which the Jimmies would by three times in the quarter. UJ turned on the defensive pressure in the final 10 minutes, holding Viterbo to 1-of-12 shooting and forcing five turnovers. The V-Hawks were 0-4 from beyond the arc and did not attempt a free throw in the quarter.

MBB: #18 Jimmies 103, Viterbo 93

Kevin Oberweiser (JR/Drummond, Mont.) and Jon Purintun (JR/Linton, N.D.) each scored 20 points to help the 18th-ranked Jimmie men’s basketball team end a three-game conference losing streak with a 103-93 win over Viterbo (Wis.) University Saturday night at Harold Newman Arena.

Christian Kvilvang (JR/Cando, N.D.) added 18 points off the bench on a career-high 6-of-7 three-point shooting. Kvilvang and Oberweiser combined to shoot 12-of-14 from long range for the Jimmies (10-5, 1-3 NSAA) who shot 15-of-28 (53.6%) as team beyond the arc.

Jason Tichy tied a career-hight with 26 points to lead all scorers, and Ethan Haberman finished with 23 for the V-Hawks (7-6, 0-3 NSAA).

Jamestown took a 12-point lead into the break on the heels of 11-for-16 shooting from three-point land, and 19-of-32 shooting overall.

Haberman gave Viterbo a 32-31 lead with a three-pointer at the 5:19 mark of the first half, but Jamestown responded with six consecutive points to go ahead by five. The V-Hawks cut the lead to three with 2:43 in the half, only to see the Jimmies score 14 of the half’s final 19 points to build a double-digit lead.

Sam Johnson (SR/Mora, Minn.)’s three-ball made it 63-49 with 15:53 to give UJ their biggest advantage of the night. Viterbo would not go quietly, scoring the next eight points to get within six at 63-57. One final run for Jamestown put the game out of reach, as the Jimmies reeled off seven straight in a span of 1:55 to lead by 13.

Leighton Sampson (SR/Worthington, Minn.) contributed 15 points, six assists, five rebounds, and a pair of blocked shots for Jamestown. Ben Weisbeck (SR/Bismarck, N.D.) was also in double digits with 10 points and was one rebound shy of a double-double, finshing with nine boards.

Cade Anderson and Jared Fleischmann chipped in with 15 and 13 points respectively, and each had a team-best six rebounds. Fleischmann also passed out six assists.
