N.D. (NewsDakota.com)——Edgely-Kulm-Montpeiler (EKM) outscored Medina-Pingree-Buchanon (MPB) 19-10 in the second half & went on to win 36-31 to capture the 2017 Stutsman County championship. EKM sealed the victory on a 13-2 advantage in the fourth quarter. In the final frame the Rebels connected on 11 of 12 free throws to clinch the title. Taylor Mathern had a game high 11 points including 6 of 6 from the charity stripe to lead the Rebels in scoring. MPB did a great job defensively on EKM’s all state center Katie Entzi, holding her to just 8 points. EKM senior guard Katelyn Schiele added 9 points to aid the Rebel victory. Amanda Allen and Megan Moser led the Thunder with 9 points each. The Thunder made just 1 of 8 free throws in the game. MPB entered the game ranked #8 in the state and fall to 4-1 on the season. The #9 ranked Rebels stay unbeaten and improve to 5-0 on the season.

Midkota Mustangs  48     Warwick Lady Warriors  39

Hunter Peterson (8th grader) led Midkota with 12 points and added 8 rebounds and 3 assists. Mariah Topp added 11 points and a game high 14 rebounds and 4 assists. Warwick was led by Madison Leaf with a game high 16 points. Kalista Jackson added 11 points and 7 rebounds for the Lady Warriors. Midkota picked up its first win of the year improving to 1-4 overall and Warwick dropped to 1-5.

5th place

South Border Mustangs  42     Ellendale Cardinals  39

South Border lost to Ellendale by 10 points (37-27) a little over a week ago. The Mustangs turned things around this time putting 3 players in double figures led by Katie Schmidt’s 14 points. Emily St. Aubin added 12 points and a game high 22 rebounds. Faith Dockter added 11 points for the Mustangs to aid the victory. Katelyn Dathe led the Cardinals with 16 points and Kennedy Schimke added 12 points. South Border improved to 2-3 and Ellendale dropped to 3-2.

Carrington Cardinals 72     Napoleon-GS Imperials  37

The Cardinals raced out to a 41-14 halftime lead and cruised to a 35 point victory over the Imperials. Emerson Hoornaert paced 3 Cardinal’s in double figures with a game high 18 points and 4 steals. Bella Hone added 14 points and a game high 7 rebounds. McKenzie Johnson added 11 points and 3 steals for the Cards. Kaylin Weigel had a team high 12 points and 7 rebounds to lead the Imperials. Carrington improved to 3-1 overall and N-GS dropped to 1-4.
